Year 2 English Terminology Word Search

Word searches were my absolute favourite activities to do when I was in Primary School (UK) they were incredibly fun and engaging and when you did them with other kids it was a fun little competition. Which is why I created a Year 2 English Terms word search sheet to make it fun and exciting for kids to learn. This is a great activity for kids to do that's both interesting, less challenging but they're still learning. There are also ideas I have listed below the worksheet which can help to use the worksheet to build learning skills and knowledge so make sure to read those ideas and see which ones might be useful for your child to do.

The worksheet is in an A4 format. To print just click and open image in a new tab and print. If you want to reformat then copy into word and adjust size to your preference or adjust the size of the sheet on your printer settings on your device.

Now for some of the ways you can really make the most use of the worksheet.

Idea 1: Create a term dictionary.

Once you print the sheet on the back of the sheet the child can create a dictionary where they define in their own words what each of the terms mean. This can help to check understanding as well as get the child to actively think about the terms making their knowledge stronger. Also, if there is something they struggle then it gives you the opportunity to discuss it with the child and help them with where their knowledge is less developed.

Idea 2: Spot the terms in a text

This activity is something I would highly recommend. Give the child a text it could be a piece of short text you print from online or a book you have at home. Get the child to find examples of the terms in the text and verbally define what it is and what it shows.

Idea 3: Write a piece of text including examples of the terms or if they have a previous piece of work then add examples of these terms in that

This is more of an advanced learning activity if the child has developed their writing skills but even if they haven’t you can work alongside the child to create a piece of text. Doing this will help with both writing skills and giving the child the opportunity to understand how they can implement these terms in their text to make it accurate and interesting.
