Easy Rhyming Worksheet Activity

Rhyming is something that is taught to kids in school quite early on- as soon as Year 1. So, the sheet activity below is perfect to test kids to see if they can identify rhymes and have understood the concept they have learned in class.

This sheet is best used once kids have learned through other resources whether by explaining to them using an example or if they have been shown a video that goes through what rhymes and rhyming is. Once the child has been introduced to rhymes this sheet can be used as a practice to assist them in their learning further as they are doing something with the content. By actively learning it will help them comprehend and remember the information they have been taught better.

Worksheet below can be used in many different ways:
  • Give the child the sheet as it is and get them to complete a circle a day
  • Complete the whole sheet
  • Cut out each circle and do each circle over a course of days so that they keep coming back and testing their knowledge
Having practice sheets to refresh a kids learning is important as kids can easily forget things learnt in class if they do not keep revisiting concepts- continue to practice and test until the child feels confident. It also allows them to ask questions if you assure them that they can come to you if they are not sure and you are more than happy to help. Make sure to create an environment where the child knows that this is not a test to punish or to see if they are 'smart' rather it is a way to practice and ask questions.

Something you could do to make it fun is to print a couple of easy poems and see if they can identify rhymes by highlighting/ colouring/ underlining the rhyme pairs they find. This will be a great activity for the kids to understand what rhyme really is and how it is used. You can also discuss the poem and meaning of the different words that rhyme together. This worksheet is also great because it can introduce a child to lots of new words that you can perhaps go over with the child to help them expand their vocabulary.

To print the worksheet:

Additional Learning Resources

A resource I would really recommend you to have a look at is the progress tracker below, it is a great way to keep track of the topics covered by the child, how confident they feel regarding a particular topic and how many times a topic has been covered. A progress tracker is an excellent way to organise a child's learning and to make sure that learning is being targeted to focus on topics that the child struggles with and to ensure that topics are being covered regularly.

This is another useful resource that I would recommend checking out, this reading tracker is a great way to track the texts that the child has been reading and to see what kind of texts they enjoy reading. A reading log is a fun way for the child to work on their reading goals and to make sure they read a range of texts to broaden their understanding of different texts.

The book review helps a child to express their views and opinions on a particular text and to showcase their understanding of what they read.

Thank you! I'll see you in my next post.
